About 048.TAX

A clearer way to examine a politically charged proposal

048.TAX is an independent public-information project built around one question: what would the published 0.48% property-tax formula actually mean in pounds?

Our purpose

Property-tax reform affects homeowners, tenants, landlords, buyers and local services. Headlines often collapse a complex proposal into a single percentage. 048.TAX makes the arithmetic visible, publishes its assumptions and links readers back to primary evidence.

The site has three functions: an educational scenario calculator, original plain-English explainers and an automatically refreshed index of relevant reporting.

Independence

048.TAX is not affiliated with HMRC, the UK Government, Andy Burnham, the Labour Party, Fairer Share or any other political party or campaign. It does not campaign for or against the proposal. That separation is stated throughout the site because the domain name and subject could otherwise imply official status.

How the site is funded

048.TAX may be supported by clearly labelled advertising, sponsorship or relevant commercial referrals. Funding does not buy a change to a calculation, source hierarchy or editorial conclusion. Paid material will be labelled and kept visually separate from navigation and editorial controls.

What we do not do

We do not provide personal tax, legal, mortgage, investment or property advice. We do not calculate an existing tax liability. We do not sell calculator inputs. Manual tax-calculator values stay in the browser; optional sold-price searches are processed only to return an estimate, as explained in the privacy notice.

Challenge an assumption

Evidence-led corrections are welcome. Include the relevant primary source so the calculation or article can be checked.
